50 songs in 90 days challenge

"This is a group whose purpose is to challenge members to write 50 songs in 90 days. Between July 4 and October 1 of any year, in the company of others, you can engage in some harmless songwriting mayhem. The prize is the pride in writing songs that may never have been written otherwise."

Yikes. :) At my peak production, I wrote about one song per month. I've been trying to increase my low output lately, but between my day job and other responsibilities, 50 songs in 90 days would drive me insane.

While I love both NaNo and Script Frenzy I would never try this. I signed up for FAWM (February Album Writing Month) last year which is about writing 14 songs in 28 days, and failed miserably. I found out that while I might be able to crank out a song every four days if I do nothing else (well, apart from normal life, that is) there is no way I can write a song in two days.

Two days, for me, actual mean a total of four two six hours. I can write 2,000 words of a novel in about 2 to 3 hours, writing a song takes more time than that.

Will you be doing it?

Yes, I will be doing it. I have completed 3 times and I have learned to speed up my songwriting considerably. I can now write - and multi-track record! - a song that I am happy with in something like 90-120 minutes. In other words, doing the challenge sharpens your craft, whether you "win" or not.
